I’m home in the US with my brother these days…and for some reason I am reminded of one of the most amazing and precious miracles I have witnessed the Lord do. He healed my brother. When my brother was in his early teens, he was diagnosed with a rare and fatal kidney disease. The doctors said that within one year my brother would be on dialysis and within three years he would be dead. Normal kidneys secrete 0-150 mg of protein a day. My brother’s protein levels were above 9000 mg. The doctors said there was no cure for this disease and even a kidney transplant would not help. But Jesus did a miracle and within one year, my brother’s protein levels went from 9000 mg to 6 mg! It reminds me of a scripture in Matthew 19:26, Jesus says, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” What the doctors could not do, Jesus did.

Perhaps in your life, you are facing an “impossible” situation. Look to Jesus, and the impossible will say to you, “I M Possible!”

Below is my brother’s account of his healing, written over ten years ago:

During a time when most kids were getting ready for a new school year, I was confined to a hospital bed. It was the August between my freshman and sophomore year in high school. Until only a few weeks ago, my life had been “normal.” But, in late July I began noticing strange symptoms in my body. Over the past few months, I had gained a significant amount of weight, which I was unable to shed despite hours of exercise and a nearly zero fat diet. As a child, my weight had always fluctuated, so at first, my family and I thought nothing of this. It was not until I awoke one morning with a swollen from head to toe, that we knew something was wrong.

My pediatrician took some urine samples and found that my kidneys were malfunctioning and leaking abnormally high levels of blood and protein. I was immediately sent to the Nephrology Center at Children’s Hospital where they took x-rays and did an ultrasound of my kidney. The doctors found that my kidneys were lined with tumors. Baffled by my symtoms, the doctors decided to perform a biopsy.

Until this point in my life, I was an average Christian. Religion was not a priority in my life. I attended church every Sunday morning, but I rarely ever prayed on my own or read the Bible. But, as my life seemed to be spiraling out of control, I began to seek the Lord. I began to pray. Over the years I had seen God perform miracles and work in mighty ways. So, I knew that God was able. At first, I didn’t really think that my disease was very serious, but I prayed because I knew it would make things better.

Any time I would go in for a test, I would continue to pray until the results came back. Any time I would get scared, I would pray. One day I asked my eldest sister, to pray for me. After we prayed she told me that she felt as if God was saying that he would not let me die. He would not let me die? It was not until then that I realized just how serious my disease might be and how much I needed God’s protection (later, those same words would help comfort me when it seemed as if death was inevitable).

As I went in for my biopsy, the last thing I did before losing consciousness was pray. The next thing I remember is waking up in my hospital room, drugged up, and feeling as if I had been run over by a car. The next day I was released from the hospital. I was relieved that the biopsy was over, but little did I know that my troubles had just begun. Two nights later I awoke with excruciating pain in my left kidney. It would not go away and it got to the point where I could no longer bear it. My mother and my middle sister drove me to the emergency room where they found that my left kidney, the one that had been biopsied, was bleeding. It seemed as if everything was getting progressively worse rather than better. However, through prayer I was able to keep my sanity, and I kept a constant optimism that everything would be okay. God was with me, I knew it.

I was in the hospital for one week, and during this week my biopsy results came back. It turned out that I had Focal Segmental Glumerial Nephritis, a rare Kidney disease that doctors don’t know the cause of or how to treat. Up until the results had come back everybody was hoping that it would simply be Minimal Change Disorder, a more common and easily treatable disease. The doctors explained the disease to my parents, giving them details I was not told until later for my own well being. The doctors told my mother that they would try some medicines, but realistically I had a MAXIMUM of ten years to live (most likely I would live much less) and I would probably be on Kidney dialysis within two years. They also said that a Kidney transplant was pointless because the disease would just affect the new kidney as well.

After spending a week in the hospital, confined to the hospital bed, I was finally sent home with instructions to remain in bed 24 hours a day. I missed the first week of the school year. All of this bed rest had left my muscles atrophied and I barely had enough energy to walk twenty feet without fainting. The doctor had me start on a steroid called prednisone. Prednisone is the mildest of the medicines they give for treating FSGS and she highly doubted that it would work, but it was routine to start with prednisone.

I began school a week and a half late, and completely exhausted. God helped me though, and I was able to return as if nothing had happened. Six weeks after beginning to take Prednisone, I went in for another appointment. To the doctor’s surprise, the prednisone had worked, but not to the extent that was necessary. The doctor wanted to put me on a stronger medicine with side effects such as cancer and infertility. I was ready to do whatever the doctor recommended, but my mom was with me and sitting in the hospital room she prayed and asked God what we should do. God told her that we should stay with the prednisone. Despite the doctors urgings otherwise, we decided that we would try prednisone for another six weeks.

Prednisone also is not without side effects. One major side effect it makes the user very, very, fat. The doctor told me that my appetite would increase and I would not be able to control my intake. I did not want to be fat, I enjoyed being skinny, so I prayed every day that I would not gain any wait. Amazingly, I only lost weight while I was on the medicine. The nurses would even joke about how they should try the “Prednisone Diet.” I was 162 pounds when I first went in to the doctor, and granted that a lot of that was water weight, I dropped down to a lean 119 pounds at one point. There were other side effects that I endured also. I had a problem with cramping. I would get leg cramps simply bending to sit in a car. For weeks I endured the cramping as if there was nothing I could do about it. Finally I had my pastor pray for me and it went away immediately. In fact, any time I was faced with a problem, I would simply get prayer from my pastor and it would disappear. Some problems I should have had god protected me from altogether.

When I went back to the doctor after the second six weeks were up, she was pleased to tell me that my protein levels had once again gone down. She was encouraged by this and wanted me to stay on prednisone as long as it was working for me. Slowly my results became better and better, my doctors appointments became further and further apart, and my prednisone dosage became lower and lower. Finally, over a year later, my levels were that of a perfectly healthy individual. Even the doctor said it was a miracle. The honest truth is, I always knew they would go down to normal and I would be okay…God said I wouldn’t die. My levels have stayed normal and have gone down even further, which is perfectly healthy. Now days when I go in for doctors appointments they feel like a waste of time because everything is going perfectly in my life. Soon I will be completely off of prednisone.

Some people who have gone through a similar ordeal might wonder, “Why did I have to go through this Lord?” That is a question I already know the answer to. Instead, I must say, “Thank you for helping me GROW through this Lord.” The transformation that I have gone through in these past two years has been amazing. Going through this has helped build my faith tremendously and I love the Lord as I never have before. Even the assistant pastor at our church commented on how I no longer just bug my sisters during church, instead I pay attention and participate. God has become real to me. It’s amazing how some of us don’t realize what an awesome God we have until we need him for something miraculous. If you think about it, everything is a miracle from God. Every single person on this planet is a miracle from God. This planet itself is a miracle from God. Until I became sick, I took all these miracles for granted. Now I thank God for everything. I thank God for my family, for my friends, for my church, for the sacrifice He made, for calling me to Him, for my health, and for always being there for me.

Note: It has been over 10 years since my brother wrote this account of his healing. My brother is completely off medication and is still perfectly healthy. Even the doctors admit it is a miracle. Since then, we have found out that doctors have stopped using Prednisone as a medicine to treat this illness because they have deemed it medically ineffective. Thus, God confirmed to us that it was not the medicine that healed my brother…it was Jesus!

In mid-July, we had the opportunity to witness an amazing miracle…again

Well, Thursday rolled around, and it was extremely hot that day. In addition, I was not feeling too well. Earlier in the week I had spent two days in bed with a 103 degree temperature. I did not have much energy. One of our church members even called me to say we should delay ministry for one day, so that I would have more time to recover from my illness. But, it was our Japanese missionary’s last day with us, and I wanted him to enjoy one last ministry trip to the Priya market. So, we decided to make the trip.

On our way to the market, we were stopped at a red light, when all of a sudden another car came and hit us. It was a weird accident, as if the other driver just hadn’t been paying attention or had very poor judgment. I remember thinking to myself at the time, “I bet God is going to do something really good today, that is why all these obstacles are coming our way.”

We got to the market a few minutes later than planned. After situating ourselves in our regular spot, I looked around. There were not a lot of people around, and the children who collect garbage were no where in sight. The previous week we had learned that a new security had been placed at the market, and they were not allowing the children to be there.

A few minutes passed and no one came for prayer. I saw a few people looking at us, actually even staring at us, but no one came for prayer. Usually the children are the first to come for prayer, and seeing them, others come as well. But, since the children were no longer allowed to be there, I began to wonder if anyone would come for prayer. I began to silently pray, under my breath.

Mom indicated to me that she was going to sit over to the side and pray. I told her to sit next to a girl I had noticed was staring at us. Perhaps Mom could strike up a conversation with her and then she would want prayer. So, Mom went and sat, and started to pray. I was praying where I was.

A few moments later, a man came up to me and asked for a copy of our testimony. I asked him if he wanted prayer as well, but he said no. He said that someone had come earlier from very far away for prayer, and he was taking the testimony to give to them if they returned.

A few moments later, another man came up to me. He said he had been waiting in the market since 1PM (it was now 7PM). He had come from Meerut (a city in a neighboring state) for prayer. I asked him what he would like prayer for, and he said it was not for him, but for his wife. He pointed towards a women, in her mid-thirties, who was slowly making her way towards where I was. She seemed to be having a lot of trouble walking. It didn’t seem like she was able ot bend her knees or fully put her feet on the ground. She was more waddling, than walking.

Finally, she was standing next to me. She repeated what her husband had told me about having waited for 6 hours for us to come! She told me that she was in extreme pain, from head to foot. She described what seemed to be a sort of arthritic condition. I looked at her hands; her fingers were curled under. I told her Jesus would heal her. We began to pray.

I said three short prayers. She said she felt a slight difference in the pain. But of course, she was not satisfied. Neither was I. We prayed a few more times. Then, I told her to wait 5 minutes and we would pray again. I assured her that Jesus was going to heal her, but that it would take some time. We would need to pray and wait, pray and wait. For some reason, with certain healings, we have seen that if we follow this pray and wait pattern, we get the best results.

The lady went and sat a few feet away from me and waited. Rather than having her get up again after 5 minutes, I asked Mom to go and lay hands on her, and I prayed from where I was. Again, she felt a slight difference only. Others from our group joined us in prayer.

We followed the prayer and wait method. After some time, the lady said she felt something leave from her ears, and with that, she felt an instant freedom. She was able to move. The pain was significantly less! She told us that for years she had felt like someone had tied her up with ropes. She was bound and could not move. Now she felt free! A smile crept to her lips. She said for the first time in years, she was experiencing joy!

With continued prayer, she got better and better. Her husband was in tears seeing the miraculous change in his wife.

Later the couple told us that the lady had been sick for over 10 years. Just 15 days after her first child was born, she began experiencing pain and stiffness. And that pain and stiffness had just grown with time. They had tried everything, in an effort to make her well. She had had a second child because faith healers and others had told her that she would be healed when she gave birth a second time. But, this did not happen. She had even stayed for 3 months at Ram Dev’s (a yoga, ayuvedic healer) camp, but to no avail.

The lady told us that she was able to eat hardly anything. She said her life was like living under severe punishment. She was now at the point that she could not do anything for herself. For the past 3 months, she had been living with her mother, who had been bathing her, dressing her, and even feeding her.

In fact, that day, the husband had come from a far-away city to take the wife to the hospital to get her admitted, because the mother could no longer take care of her. She had deteriorated so much, they didn’t know how much longer she would survive. Someone at the hospital had told them that instead of getting her admitted, they needed to go to the market and get prayer, and she would be healed. The man who guided them to the market testified that he had been unable to move his arm and after prayer at the market, Jesus had completely healed him. He said he had sent many people to the market, and they had all been healed!

So, as a last ditch effort, this couple had made their way to the market. As soon as they arrived at the market, they had asked a shop keeper if this was the right market where we come to pray. The shop keeper told them that they were at the right place and that they too surely would receive their healing. He testified that he had had a severe headache for years, but after prayer, Jesus had healed him.

The couple told us that while they were waiting, they had asked several peope about their experiences and each person had had a testimony to share of how Jesus had healed them at the market. Even the slum children who hang out at the market had reassured the couple that if they waited, they would experience Jesus’ healing power.

At around 6PM, one of the children told the couple, “It looks like they are not coming. You should go to the church. Maybe they will be there.” So, the couple had made their way to the church where we hold Sunday prayer. But, there they were in the middle of conducting mass, so no one was able to give them our contact number. Just as they had almost lost hope, they got a call from the market saying we had arrived!

And the rest, is history! Jesus touched and healed the woman. After Thursday, she came to our house a few times for continued prayer to receive 100% healing.

In Luke 4, Jesus said of Himself, quoting from the Book of Isaiah:

18 “ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

Just as Jesus promised in these verses, Jesus set this woman free from her captivity. She was bound by pain and stiffness and Jesus gave her liberty.

In the same way, if you are poor, brokenhearted, blind, oppressed or captive, look to Jesus. He has come to give you “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” Isaiah 61:3. He has come to change your life this very day. Just call upon His name…JESUS.

The past couple of weeks, God has really been showing me that He is our provider. Some people do not ask God because they do not want to be selfish. They feel like they can manage on their own. So, they do not ask the Lord to meet their needs. But is it ever selfish to ask your parents for help? No. And God is our Heavenly Father, who loves us even more than our earthly parents. He wants to provide for us. All we need to do is ask. And He has more than enough resources, money, influence, etc. to meet our every need. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:19, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus.” And let me assure you, “His riches and glory” are without bound. They are endless. Thus, He can provide for you, your family, your neighbors, their families, their neighbors…and the list goes on. He can provide for the entire world and still not run out!

A man called me 2 Sundays ago. He said that he was afraid of losing his job due to the recession. He had interview and applied many places, but the doors were just not opening. We prayed. The next day he SMSed me and told me that he got a call from a company that he had interviewed with several weeks back had called him for a lunch meeting on Tuesday. There had been no developments for 2-3 weeks, but as soon as we prayed, things started to happen. And after the lunch meeting, he SMSed me again to tell me that the company had promised to give him an offer letter within 2 days! He needed a job…and the Lord provided.

A few days after that, a lady called me from Meerut. She said that he daughter had applied for a visa to go to the UK, but they were not getting any response. Things didn’t look good. But we prayed. The next day, she called and told me that her daughter got the visa! Her daughter needed a visa…and the Lord provided.

A few days after that, a lady called from near Banaras. She was crying. Her son was going through an unexpected and bitter divorce (the daughter-in-law had an affair with a co-worker). Her daughter-in-law had a very good lawyer and the odds were stacked against them. The lady was worried that her son would lose his life’s savings and his one-year-old daughter. We prayed. Just a few days ago the lady called me back and said that her son, who had been in severe depression was feeling better, and the court had made unexpected preliminary rulings in her son’s favor. Her son needed a miracle…and God provided.

A few days later, we were at the marketplace where we pray for people. As I was talking to a girl, she mentioned that due to financial difficulties she was not going to be able to go home for Eid. She had just called her parents that morning to inform them that she would be unable to come home. She was very disappointed, as were her parents. “Why don’t we pray and ask Jesus to provide the finances so you can go home?” I asked her. Her eyes lit up and she agreed. We prayed. The next morning she called me bright and early. She was so excited. Jesus had heard our prayers. Someone had unexpectedly sent her money and she was going to be able to go home and surprise her family! This girl needed money…and God provided.

The same day that I pray with this girl, I received an SMS from a friend. He wrote and told me that he had been playing snooker with his friends. He said that his friend always wins. For the first time my friend prayed to Jesus and asked Him for help. And to his amazement, he won the game on the very next shot! My friend wanted victory…and God provided. (Jesus not only gives us what we need, but He even blesses us with our wants and desires!)

Today, if you have a need (or a desire), ask Jesus. No matter what your need is, when you turn to Him, you will find supply. He has more than enough in His storehouse!

Last week, I witnessed an almost unbelievable miracle. A friend, who is like a brother, had applied for admission at a prestigious University. On Friday the admissions results were posted on the University’s website and unfortunately, his name was not on the list! He checked several times, but his name just was not there.

He was disappointed. But, he held on to Romans 8:28 – All things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose.

We all were praying that God would open a new door either in the same University or another.

That night he received a strange SMS from the University. We couldn’t figure out what it meant, so he checked the website again. And…a miracle happened! His name was on the list! He had received admission!

The next day mom went with him to the Uni to finalize his admission. Mom later told me that it seemed like the people there were surprised that he had gotten admission without paying a “donation” and without taking the entrance exam.

This miracle reminded me that we should never give up. Even when the door seems to be shut, trust in Jesus. He has the master key and can open any door!

A few Sundays ago I had the opportunity to witness one of the biggest transformations I have ever seen in a person…and it was all because of Jesus! Several weeks ago a boy in his early teens came to church for the first time. He was so disruptive that no one was able to pay attention to prayer. He was either hitting someone, pulling their hair, lying down on them, stealing their money or just plain talking, through the entire service. No matter how many time we warned him, the boy would not behave!

At the end of service, he almost jokingly came up for prayer for a headache. We prayed & he said the pain was gone.

We were actually thankful that he did not come to church the next two weeks. Things were a lot more peaceful We decided if he came and was disruptive, we would have to ask him to leave, for the sake of everyone else.

Well, a few Sundays ago, this boy came to church. However, to my surprise, I did not even notice him until he raised his hand to share a testimony (he was so quiet and peaceful). During testimony time, he shared that he used to have a constant headache, which cause him to be angry all the time. He used to fight and beat everyone up. Jesus healed him when we prayed a few weeks back. Not only was his headache gone, but now he was also a peaceful boy! He no longer fought or felt angry!

At the end of the service on Sunday, God healed him of pain in his hand and chest as well. And he asked for prayer that his mom would allow him to come every week!

Sometimes there are people in our lives (or even ourselves) whom we think will never change. We have tried to change them. They may have tried to change themselves. But, all to no avail! There is only One who can change hearts and lives and set people free from sin…Jesus!

Pray and give the situation to God and He will transform them, or us, as needed
