Suppose a person was really thirsty and the entire Pacific Ocean (the biggest body of water on the planet) was there for his drinking. If he drank just a little shot glass of water and stopped, you would think he was crazy. When there is so much more available, why should he stop with so little? He should drink, and drink, and drink until he thirsts no more.
Last week, in church, the preacher noted that often times, when it comes to receiving from God, we are like that man who drinks only a shot glass of water. We are satisfied with just a little bit of God. We have an encounter with Him, or we feel His presence, and we become content. Instead of seeking more, we feel that our experience is more than enough. But, the preacher noted, often, God has so much more He wants to give us, in terms of a relationship with Him. God is bigger than the Pacific Ocean, so we need to not just be contented with a shot glass. We need to drink more and more and more of God until we thirst no more
We often run and seek after the “things” God can give us. We pray for countless hours for God to give us this or that. We pray for jobs, finances, healing, relationships, etc. We ask God for the things we want and desire. And although I am the first to encourage people to ask the Lord for everything big or small, more than asking God for these things, we should ask God for more of Him. And Jesus reassures us in the Bible that if we seek Him, He will give us all of those other “things” anyways. Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Of course, this does not mean that you should seek God as a way of manipulating Him into giving you everything else you want
It means that if you truly seek Him, you won’t need to worry about everything else, He will take care of you and your needs and desires.)
And as we are truly seeking Him, we need to continue to seek until we find Him. Even then, we should not be satisfied with just a glimpse of His majesty. We need to seek Him until we are face to face with Him. But we shouldn’t stop there. We need to get to know Him from the inside out. We need discover His thoughts…His mind…His heart.
The funny thing about spiritual hunger is that unlike physical hunger, that is satisfied the more you eat, physical hunger actually grows with consumption. The more you pray, read the Bible, fellowship with His people…the hungrier you grow for more of Him. Thus, if you are satisfied with just a small bit of Him, a fleeting encounter, a light touch from above, you are likely suffering from a spiritual eating disorder
You may need to just force yourself to eat and plump up a bit!
Hmm…all of these random and somewhat inter-related thoughts are just to encourage you to spend this week seeking more of Him. If you seek Him, you will find Him. Deuteronomy 4:29. And then, remember, do not stop with just a shot glass…drink the ocean.

So true di,
I like the analogy of the ocean..really God does give us an ocean and ofcourse we are so thristy that we dont realize that…but we just drink a tiny shot and think its done..! I personally pray that I long for more and more, and dont fool myself into “sufficiency” with just a little shot or an encounter or two…
Amen
